SUMMARY:Brewery of the Day: Okell's
DESCRIPTION:There are breweries with traditions – and then there’s Okell’s\, which helped get the rules for good beer written into Manx law. Founded on the Isle of Man by Dr William Okell in 1850\, the brewery’s story took a wonderfully beer-geek turn in 1874 when its founder championed the Manx Pure Beer Act\, restricting Manx beer to proper brewing ingredients and keeping artificial additives and substitutes out. More than 175 years after Okell’s began brewing\, that commitment to pure beer is still going strong. Frankly\, we rather like an island that takes its pint seriously enough to legislate for it. \nAnd drinkers have plenty of reasons to take notice right now. Okell’s has just had a cracking few weeks on the awards circuit\, picking up Gold at the 2026 World Beer Awards for its Nectar New World IPA\, alongside recognition for its Smoked Porter\, followed by two more medals at the International Beer Challenge. Back home\, its cask ales remain a familiar sight across the Isle of Man’s pubs\, while seasonal and limited-edition brews give the brewers plenty of room to have some fun alongside the classics. \nSo\, if Okell’s is already an old friend\, raise a glass to 175+ years of proudly Manx brewing. And if you’ve never tried an Okell’s beer? Consider this your invitation. A pint brewed on a tiny island in the Irish Sea\, with generations of history behind it and its own purity law to boot – that’s exactly the sort of beer story we think is worth seeking out during Cask Ale Week. \nDiscover more: Visit Okell’s and read about its latest success at the 2026 World Beer Awards.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Five Points Brewery XPA
DESCRIPTION:Imagine you’ve never tried cask ale before. You’re on a historic pub tour around Shoreditch and you ask your guide: “So… what should I order?” Today’s judge\, Charo Havermans\, knows exactly what she’d say. \nCharo is a public historian and tour guide specialising in pubs\, particularly the often-overlooked role women have played in brewing and pub life. She’s even helping to create the world’s first Pub Museum. On one of her Shoreditch tours\, a conversation about women as some of our original brewers led a group of tourists to ask what they should choose for their very first cask. Charo recommended Five Points XPA – locally brewed in Hackney by a team that includes Head Brewer Laura Hardman and Assistant Head Brewer Alana Lim. \nAt 4%\, XPA is light\, zingy and tropical\, with mango and passionfruit alongside a satisfying hoppy bitterness. Originally created for Field Day festival in 2016\, it proved far too popular to disappear afterwards and is now part of the core range – and it’s gluten-free too. But there’s another reason Charo remembers that particular tour. One local guest was very enthusiastic about her recommendation and promptly made sure everyone ordered XPA. Why the excitement? He owned shares in Five Points. As Charo says: “Let’s hope it’s made a difference\, Pete!” \nSo whether you’re a seasoned cask fan or wondering what to order for your very first pint\, follow Charo’s lead and give XPA a go. Her top spots to find it are two London pub legends\, The Pride of Spitalfields and The Cockpit. History lesson over. Pint time.

SUMMARY:Brewery of the Day: Wye Valley
DESCRIPTION:If you like your pint with a real sense of where it comes from\, Wye Valley Brewery is one to look out for. It started life in 1985 when former Guinness brewer Peter Amor set up a tiny brewery behind a Herefordshire pub. Forty-one years later\, it’s still independent and family-owned\, but those humble beginnings have grown into more than 15 million pints enjoyed each year and beers pouring in over 1\,200 pubs and bars. Not bad for something that started behind the bar. \nAnd Wye Valley really does taste of its home turf. The brewery sits right in the heart of Herefordshire hop country and more than half of its hops are grown within just 10 miles – so when you’re drinking a pint of Wye Valley cask\, there’s a good chance the hops haven’t travelled very far at all. Even some of the brewery’s original casks from 1985 are apparently still doing the rounds. We’d love to know how many good nights out those have witnessed. \nThat combination of local roots and a loyal following is exactly why we’re celebrating Wye Valley during Cask Ale Week. Whether you already know their pump clips well or you’re about to order one for the first time\, this is proper independent brewing with Herefordshire running right through it. So if you spot Wye Valley on the bar this week\, you know what to do. Find a pint\, find some friends and give it a try. Cheers! \nDiscover more: Visit Wye Valley Brewery and read about the latest chapter in this independent family brewery’s story.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Jiddlers Tipple + Fullers London Tipple
DESCRIPTION:Today we’re handing out a Beer of the Day award we’ve never given before. Welcome to the Cask Ale Week Newcomer Award – and its first winner\, Jiddler’s Tipple. \nIf you know Jacob Liddle\, you’ll know he’s hardly a newcomer to great beer. He’s a certified Beer Sommelier\, beer judge and Channel 4 Sunday Brunch beer expert\, while the beers from his North London Jiddler’s Tipple have collected more than 40 awards. Swifty was crowned World’s Best Session IPA at the 2025 World Beer Awards\, Sweet As Pacific IPA picked up Gold at the London Beer Competition\, and there are plenty more medals where those came from. Jacob has built his reputation on modern\, flavour-packed\, lower-ABV craft beer – now he’s bringing that award-winning modern brewing approach to cask \nAnd what a way to do it. London Tipple is a 4.1% collaboration with Fuller’s that brings two sides of London brewing together in one handpull. Inspired by the heritage malt bill of the legendary London Pride\, Jacob and Fuller’s have given it a modern West Coast spin\, bringing citrus\, pithy orange and pine before a crisp\, refreshing bitter finish. London brewing heritage meets modern craft beer – on cask. Oh\, and it’s gluten-free too. \nThat’s what our Newcomer Award is really about. Not being new to beer\, but bringing new energy\, new ideas and new drinkers to cask. Jacob has previously said he’d love to see more people drinking cask because it’s Britain’s original craft beer. Well\, he’s doing his bit. Congratulations to Jiddler’s Tipple and Fuller’s – and here’s to seeing what Jacob puts through a handpull next.

SUMMARY:Brewery of the Day: Ossett
DESCRIPTION:Fresh\, hoppy and with a definite independent streak\, Ossett Brewery has been doing things its own way since Bob Lawson started brewing in the back of a West Yorkshire pub in 1998. What began as a tiny operation has grown into a brewery producing more than nine million pints a year\, with a fantastic collection of pubs and a loyal following of drinkers who know exactly what they like. And if there’s one thing Ossett proves brilliantly\, it’s just how exciting modern cask can be. \nWhite Rat is perhaps the perfect example. First brewed in 2011 in the basement of Huddersfield’s Rat & Ratchet\, it quickly became a firm favourite with drinkers and has gone on to develop a huge following – today around five million pints are brewed each year. But Ossett’s brewers haven’t stopped playing. New hops\, new styles\, cask-only releases and collaborations keep appearing alongside the favourites\, making this the sort of brewery where it’s always worth having a look along the handpulls to see what’s new. \nAnd this summer Ossett doubled down on quality by becoming a member of Cask Marque\, with all of its own pubs already Cask Marque accredited. We love that combination: make brilliant cask\, keep experimenting\, but make absolutely sure it reaches the drinker tasting as good as it should. So if an Ossett pump clip catches your eye this Cask Ale Week – particularly one with a rat on it – we suggest you follow it. There could be a very good pint waiting on the other side. \nDiscover more: Visit Ossett Brewery and read about its latest commitment to great cask through Cask Marque.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Ossett Brewery White Rat
DESCRIPTION:When the man behind one of Britain’s great cask pubs tells you there’s a beer worth ordering\, you listen. Today’s Beer of the Day has been chosen by Steve from the Swan with Two Necks in Pendleton – a family-run Ribble Valley pub he and Christine have been running since 1987. \nAnd Steve knows his way around a handpull. The Swan has been crowned CAMRA’s National Pub of the Year\, has repeatedly been recognised among the country’s very best pubs and is the current Ribble Valley CAMRA Pub of the Year. Steve’s choice from behind that famous bar is Ossett White Rat – a 4% pale ale with plenty of bite\, packed with citrus\, tropical fruit and pine from its American hops. Crisp\, bitter\, seriously hoppy and extremely moreish\, it’s exactly the sort of pint that has people spotting the rat on the pump clip and knowing what they’re ordering. \nWhite Rat started life in 2011 as Lab Rat\, a tiny test brew created in the basement of Huddersfield’s Rat & Ratchet. It was designed for the drinkers upstairs and was seriously hoppy by the standards of cask at the time. Those drinkers clearly knew a good thing when they tasted it: demand took off\, White Rat became Ossett’s bestselling beer and today around five million pints a year are brewed. \nSo today we’re following Steve’s lead. Find the rat on the bar and give it a go. It’s modern\, punchy\, properly bitter cask that was ahead of the curve when it appeared 15 years ago – and judging by the number of people still ordering it\, the rest of us have been happily catching up ever since.

SUMMARY:Brewery of the Day: Belhaven
DESCRIPTION:Sitting among the barley fields of East Lothian\, just outside Dunbar\, Scotland’s oldest working brewery has been doing its thing since 1719. More than 300 years later\, the beer is still brewed right there using local water\, malted barley and Belhaven’s own yeast. There are even ancient cellars on the site linked to the Benedictine monks who brewed in Dunbar centuries ago. That’s a fair bit of brewing history beneath your feet before you’ve even ordered a pint. \nAnd what we love about Belhaven is that its beers are so unmistakably Scottish. This is the land of 80 Shilling – or “80 bob” if you prefer – alongside stouts\, IPAs and the hugely popular Belhaven Best. There’s a brilliant sense of place about it all: a brewery on the Scottish coast\, surrounded by some of the country’s finest barley-growing land\, still producing beers with the malty\, characterful flavours generations of Scottish drinkers have enjoyed. Yet there’s plenty for a new generation to discover too. \nBetter still\, Belhaven is getting properly stuck into Cask Ale Week\, with participating pubs offering CAMRA members 25% off cask during the promotion. So whether you already know your 80/- from your Wee Heavy or the world of Scottish ale is completely new territory\, this seems a very good week to investigate. Find a handpull\, order yourself a pint and raise a glass to more than three centuries of Scottish brewing. Slàinte! \nDiscover more: Visit Belhaven Brewery and explore the story of Scotland’s oldest working brewery.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Colchester Brewery Brazilian Coffee Vanilla Porter
DESCRIPTION:What beer does the Chairman of CAMRA go hunting for when he spots it on the bar? Today we have the answer – and apparently you need to be quick. \nOur Beer of the Day has been chosen by Ash Corbett-Collins\, Chairman of CAMRA\, and it’s Brazilian Coffee & Vanilla Porter from Colchester Brewery. Ash first discovered it at the Great British Beer Festival while volunteering as a Champion Beer of Britain judge. It was his beer of the festival and he’s been seeking it out ever since – although finding it isn’t always easy. In fact\, Ash has previously called Brazilian his “needle in a haystack beer”. When he does find it\, he knows exactly why he keeps coming back: “It is smooth with a velvety mouthfeel\, it has a strong coffee flavour without being overly bitter\, while being easily drinkable without being too heavy.” \nAt 4.6%\, Brazilian is a proper flavour-packed cask porter\, with coffee and vanilla doing the talking while Goldings and Fuggles bring some classic British brewing character underneath. And Ash isn’t the only one who rates it: Brazilian has picked up multiple awards\, including winning the Speciality category at CAMRA’s Champion Beer of Britain. Colchester Brewery says it’s regularly one of the first beers to disappear at festivals too – so perhaps Ash’s trouble finding a pint is partly because everybody else keeps beating him to it. \nThere is one catch: Brazilian isn’t brewed on cask all year round. It’s part of Colchester Brewery’s rotating dark beer range\, making finding that 4.6% cask version all the more satisfying. So if you ever spot Brazilian on a handpull\, take Ash’s advice and give it a try while you can. And if Ash happens to be standing behind you in the queue… perhaps leave him a pint.

SUMMARY:Brewery of the Day: Thwaites
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Thwaites. The family has been brewing in Lancashire since 1807 and\, six generations later\, they’re still at it – although these days the beer comes from a smaller\, modern brewery at Mellor Brook in the beautiful Ribble Valley. \nAnd small really is part of the appeal. Thwaites made a conscious move away from big industrial brewing and back towards doing things on a more human scale. The brewers describe using their senses to guide every brew from grist to cask\, producing the bitters and ales drinkers know and love alongside a rolling line-up of seasonal and small-batch cask beers. In other words\, there’s usually a very good reason to have a look along the handpulls and see what they’ve been up to. \nThat feels like a pretty good way to round off our Brewery of the Day celebrations. More than 200 years of family brewing\, proper Lancashire pubs\, a modern little brewery making cask with plenty of character – and four enormous horses keeping an eye on proceedings. If you spot Thwaites on the bar this Cask Ale Week\, give it a try. You may just find a new favourite. And yes\, we think all breweries should come with Shire horses too. \nDiscover more: Visit Thwaites and explore the story of more than two centuries of Lancashire brewing.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Butcombe + Hawkstone Hops & Glory
DESCRIPTION:Well\, this feels like a rather good way to finish. Hawkstone has made its first-ever cask beer – and our final Beer of the Day comes from a landlord who knows a thing or two about a great pint. \nOwain Jones\, co-owner of The Plough at West Hanney\, has chosen Hops & Glory\, the new 4.2% Real English Pale Ale from Hawkstone and Butcombe. Owain and his team run a community-owned village pub where cask is very much part of the furniture – The Plough has been recognised repeatedly by its local CAMRA branch and has built a reputation for keeping a cracking pint. So when something genuinely new arrives on the handpull\, he’s exactly the sort of person we want to hear from. \nAnd Hops & Glory really is new territory. This is Hawkstone’s first-ever cask beer. The Cotswolds brewery has made its name with lager and modern British beer\, with Jeremy Clarkson perhaps its most recognisable champion\, but for its first trip onto the handpull it has teamed up with a brewery that knows cask inside out. Butcombe has been brewing since 1978\, giving the collaboration almost half a century of cask experience to draw upon. It’s a meeting of two different generations of British brewing – and rather wonderfully\, they’ve chosen to do it with a beer that puts British ingredients front and centre. \nHops & Glory is brewed using 100% British ingredients\, including Maris Otter barley and six varieties of British-grown hops. The result is pale\, bright and refreshing\, with grapefruit\, orange peel and gentle tropical fruit before a crisp\, satisfyingly bitter finish. It’s traditional enough to feel completely at home on a handpull\, but with the bright\, punchy hop character you’d expect from a modern pale ale. A first cask beer that actually feels like a first cask beer – not an imitation of something that came before. \nThere’s another reason we love this collaboration. Every cask sold raises £10 for two charities supporting the people at the heart of British pubs and farming. The Licensed Trade Charity has been helping people working in pubs\, bars and hospitality for more than 200 years\, providing practical\, emotional and financial support when times get difficult. Shout provides free\, confidential mental-health support by text\, including vital support for people in farming communities. Behind every pint are growers\, brewers\, dray teams\, cellar staff and publicans – real people – so it feels particularly fitting that Hawkstone and Butcombe are using their first cask together to give something back. \nAnd perhaps that’s why this makes such a good final Beer of the Day for Cask Ale Week. We’ve spent the week celebrating beers with decades – sometimes centuries – of history behind them. Hops & Glory points in the other direction. It’s a brand making its first move into cask\, working with an experienced cask brewer\, using British-grown ingredients\, supporting pubs and farming\, and putting something genuinely new on the handpull. \nSo if you spot Hops & Glory on the bar\, follow Owain’s lead and order one while you can – it’s only around for a limited time. Hawkstone’s first cask. Two breweries. Six British hops. Two brilliant causes. One community pub landlord giving it the thumbs-up. If this is what Hawkstone’s first crack at cask looks like\, we’re rather interested to see what comes next. Cheers to that – and cheers to Cask Ale Week!
