SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Timothy Taylor's Landlord
DESCRIPTION:What do our Ale Trailers and James Blunt have in common? Excellent taste in cask\, apparently. \nEvery year we ask our Ale Trailers to vote for their favourite beer – and every year Timothy Taylor’s Landlord comes out on top. So there really could only be one Drinkers’ Choice Beer of the Day to kick off Cask Ale Week. And this year our drinkers have some rather famous company. Singer\, songwriter\, cask ale fan and – importantly – pub owner James Blunt has picked Landlord as his Beer of the Day too. \nWhy? James tells us: “The beer is always consistent and has beautiful clarity once settled. Coming in at a sensible 4.3% ABV means enjoying a few jars is no problem at all… There would be uproar if we ever considered removing it from our pumps!” And who are we to argue? First brewed in 1953\, Landlord has gone on to become a four-time CAMRA Supreme Champion Beer of Britain and today is Britain’s number-one cask ale by both volume and value. Bright\, beautifully balanced\, fruity and citrusy with that unmistakable lingering bitter finish\, this is a pint that inspires some serious loyalty. \nAnd if your usual Landlord looks particularly snazzy this Cask Ale Week\, you haven’t had one too many. Timothy Taylor’s has just unveiled its first major brand refresh in more than a decade\, with a smart new British racing green look rolling out across pump clips\, glassware and bottles. New outfit\, same Landlord underneath – which is probably just as well\, given James has already warned us what would happen if anyone messed with it. \nOur Ale Trailers have spoken. James Blunt has spoken. Cheers to our first Beer of the Day 2026!

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Adnams Ghost Ship
DESCRIPTION:Day Two and our Beer of the Day is a hauntingly good one. Award-winning beer writer Adrian Tierney-Jones has chosen Adnams Ghost Ship – and described a great pint of it with one word we particularly like: “pristine.” \nAdrian says: “Ghost Ship Pale Ale is actually a pristine pint. It’s a beer that packs great hop character. There’s a really good balance between the malt and the juicy\, fruity hoppiness\, which makes it the perfect cask beer for Cask Ale Week.” And there’s quite a story behind that pint. Ghost Ship first appeared in 2010 as a Halloween seasonal\, inspired by shipwrecks\, smugglers and tales of ghostly vessels off the Suffolk coast. Its spiritual home is The Bell at Walberswick\, Adnams’ centuries-old pub with a few ghost stories of its own. The brewers then threw a relatively new American hop called Citra into the mix – and created a monster. The first brew went down so well that Ghost Ship returned the following year\, when demand was so strong Adnams actually ran out of Citra. By 2012\, it was here to stay. \nAt 4.1%\, Ghost Ship brings lemon\, lime and elderflower from those hops\, a touch of biscuit from the malt and rye spice underneath – bright\, juicy\, refreshing and with a lovely hoppy finish. What began as a spooky seasonal experiment has become Adnams’ best-selling beer\, which suggests this is one Ghost people are very happy to see again. So take Adrian’s advice this Cask Ale Week: hunt down a pristine pint of Ghost Ship\, pull up a chair and enjoy it. Preferably in a nice old pub. Whether you choose one that’s haunted is entirely up to you.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Bradfield Brewery Farmers Blonde
DESCRIPTION:From Two Doors Down to one very good pint. Day Three’s Beer of the Day has been chosen by actor\, writer and comedian Kieran Hodgson\, best known to millions as Gordon in BBC sitcom Two Doors Down. His pick? A proper Yorkshire favourite: Farmers Blonde from Bradfield Brewery. \nAnd what a lovely pint to choose. At 4.0%\, Farmers Blonde is pale\, bright\, citrusy and packed with summery fruit aromas – the sort of wonderfully refreshing\, easy-drinking cask beer that can disappear rather quicker than you intended. It also comes with a brilliantly Yorkshire backstory. Bradfield Brewery started life on a working dairy farm in 2005\, and Farmers Blonde was named after the Blonde d’Aquitaine breed of cattle. The beer proved rather popular – today it’s Bradfield’s flagship ale\, while the brewery has gone from milking 100 cows a day to brewing more than 100\,000 pints a week. Now that’s what we call diversification. \nSo today we’re following Kieran’s lead. Find yourself a handpull with that famous blonde cow on it and order a Farmers Blonde. If you’re already a cask drinker\, there’s every chance you’ll understand why it has such a following. And if you’re just beginning to explore cask? This bright\, fruity\, refreshing Yorkshire blonde is a very good place to start. Cheers\, Kieran – excellent choice.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Palmers Dorset Gold
DESCRIPTION:Beer expertise\, meet liquid sunshine. Day Four’s Beer of the Day has been picked by the fabulous Ryan Perry – AKA Crafty Beer Boy and\, as of this summer\, an accredited Beer Sommelier. And yes\, Beer Sommelier really is a thing – think wine sommelier\, but with considerably more hops. Ryan has trained in everything from beer styles and brewing to tasting\, food pairing and spotting faults\, so when he gets excited about a pint\, we’re listening. \nHis choice is Palmers Dorset Gold\, a 4.5% golden ale brewed just a mile from Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. Pale\, zesty\, lightly hopped and packed with freshness\, it blends malted barley and wheat to make the sort of gloriously refreshing pint that seems made for a sunny pub garden. In fact\, Dorset Gold began life as a summer ale – but drinkers liked it so much that Palmers decided summer simply wasn’t long enough. It’s now brewed all year round. Sensible people. \nAnd perhaps that’s the joy of Ryan’s choice. You can know an enormous amount about beer – train your palate\, study brewing\, learn your styles and become a fully fledged Beer Sommelier – and still come back to something wonderfully simple: a cracking\, thirst-quenching pint that makes you smile. So follow Ryan’s lead this Cask Ale Week and look out for Dorset Gold on the handpull. Sunshine is\, unfortunately\, not guaranteed. A little taste of Dorset very much is.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Hanlons Yellow Hammer
DESCRIPTION:You know a beer has earned a place in your heart when just seeing it on the bar takes you straight back to somewhere special. That’s exactly what Hanlons Yellow Hammer does for today’s judge\, Sarah Hall from SALSA. \nSarah spends her working life pretty close to beer. SALSA works with Cask Marque to run SALSA plus Beer\, a specialist standard for breweries that checks all the important stuff happening long before a pint reaches the handpull – from ingredients and brewing processes to hygiene\, safety\, quality and consistency. In other words\, Sarah knows there’s a lot that goes into making sure the beer in our glass is as good as it should be. But her Beer of the Day isn’t about standards\, audits or ticking boxes. It’s about holidays\, family and a pint she’s loved for years. \n“My choice is Hanlons Yellow Hammer. I’ve been drinking this for years – back to when they were O’Hanlon’s – on my trips down to Devon. My brother ran a pub for many years in East Devon and whenever this beer was on tap\, this was my pick.” For Sarah\, its light\, fruity\, crisp character is now inseparable from those trips: “It is incredibly drinkable\, making it a beer I always look out for whenever I’m in the South West. It instantly transports me back to memories of holidays and family visits to Devon.” \nAnd we can see why it became the one. At 4.2%\, Yellow Hammer is a light golden ale with zesty citrus and tropical fruit notes and a delicate hoppy finish. Even its name came from drinkers\, chosen in a “Name This Beer” competition back in the O’Hanlon’s days. The recipe has evolved over the years\, but the affection for it clearly hasn’t – Yellow Hammer remains Hanlons’ most popular beer today. \nThat’s the magic of a favourite cask beer. It can be beautifully made\, perfectly kept and taste fantastic – but somewhere along the way it can also become attached to people\, places and memories. For Sarah\, Yellow Hammer tastes of trips to Devon and time with family. Find yourself a pint this Cask Ale Week and see where it takes you.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Wadworth 6X
DESCRIPTION:We’ve had beer experts and famous faces choosing our Beers of the Day. Today\, we’ve gone for a full-blown superfan. Meet Tim Mackie-Harrison – lifelong cask lover\, officially crowned one of Wadworth’s “Legends”\, and a man whose relationship with 6X started considerably earlier than licensing laws would have preferred. \nTim grew up near Wadworth’s old Northgate Brewery in Devizes. He remembers the malty smell of brewing drifting across his primary-school playground and sneaking the occasional sip of 6X from his dad’s glass at the village pub. Fast-forward a few years (and to entirely legal pints) and that affection hasn’t gone anywhere. Tim even won a competition to help brew 6X 1923\, the special 6% version recreated for the beer’s centenary\, alongside Wadworth’s head brewer. Unsurprisingly\, it’s now his all-time favourite. This isn’t so much a Beer of the Day nomination as a lifelong love affair. \nAnd what started it all? 6X. First brewed on 5 December 1923\, today’s 4.1% cask version is a rich amber ale packed with malt and fruit\, balanced by Fuggles and Goldings hops and finishing with that long\, satisfying maltiness that has kept generations coming back. Even its wonderfully odd name comes with a pub-worthy story. Strong beers were traditionally marked on casks with crosses\, so the original 6% beer would have received six of them: XXXXXX. Wadworth cooper Reg Morris shortened the lot to 6X – and more than a century later\, the name is still on the handpull. \nSo today\, we’re taking advice from someone who has known the smell of Wadworth beer since the playground\, tasted 6X from his dad’s pint and eventually ended up helping to brew its centenary edition. That’s what we call a proper cask ale fan. If you already know and love 6X\, raise a glass to Tim and more than a century of this Wiltshire classic.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Five Points Brewery XPA
DESCRIPTION:Imagine you’ve never tried cask ale before. You’re on a historic pub tour around Shoreditch and you ask your guide: “So… what should I order?” Today’s judge\, Charo Havermans\, knows exactly what she’d say. \nCharo is a public historian and tour guide specialising in pubs\, particularly the often-overlooked role women have played in brewing and pub life. She’s even helping to create the world’s first Pub Museum. On one of her Shoreditch tours\, a conversation about women as some of our original brewers led a group of tourists to ask what they should choose for their very first cask. Charo recommended Five Points XPA – locally brewed in Hackney by a team that includes Head Brewer Laura Hardman and Assistant Head Brewer Alana Lim. \nAt 4%\, XPA is light\, zingy and tropical\, with mango and passionfruit alongside a satisfying hoppy bitterness. Originally created for Field Day festival in 2016\, it proved far too popular to disappear afterwards and is now part of the core range – and it’s gluten-free too. But there’s another reason Charo remembers that particular tour. One local guest was very enthusiastic about her recommendation and promptly made sure everyone ordered XPA. Why the excitement? He owned shares in Five Points. As Charo says: “Let’s hope it’s made a difference\, Pete!” \nSo whether you’re a seasoned cask fan or wondering what to order for your very first pint\, follow Charo’s lead and give XPA a go. Her top spots to find it are two London pub legends\, The Pride of Spitalfields and The Cockpit. History lesson over. Pint time.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Jiddlers Tipple + Fullers London Tipple
DESCRIPTION:Today we’re handing out a Beer of the Day award we’ve never given before. Welcome to the Cask Ale Week Newcomer Award – and its first winner\, Jiddler’s Tipple. \nIf you know Jacob Liddle\, you’ll know he’s hardly a newcomer to great beer. He’s a certified Beer Sommelier\, beer judge and Channel 4 Sunday Brunch beer expert\, while the beers from his North London Jiddler’s Tipple have collected more than 40 awards. Swifty was crowned World’s Best Session IPA at the 2025 World Beer Awards\, Sweet As Pacific IPA picked up Gold at the London Beer Competition\, and there are plenty more medals where those came from. Jacob has built his reputation on modern\, flavour-packed\, lower-ABV craft beer – now he’s bringing that award-winning modern brewing approach to cask \nAnd what a way to do it. London Tipple is a 4.1% collaboration with Fuller’s that brings two sides of London brewing together in one handpull. Inspired by the heritage malt bill of the legendary London Pride\, Jacob and Fuller’s have given it a modern West Coast spin\, bringing citrus\, pithy orange and pine before a crisp\, refreshing bitter finish. London brewing heritage meets modern craft beer – on cask. Oh\, and it’s gluten-free too. \nThat’s what our Newcomer Award is really about. Not being new to beer\, but bringing new energy\, new ideas and new drinkers to cask. Jacob has previously said he’d love to see more people drinking cask because it’s Britain’s original craft beer. Well\, he’s doing his bit. Congratulations to Jiddler’s Tipple and Fuller’s – and here’s to seeing what Jacob puts through a handpull next.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Ossett Brewery White Rat
DESCRIPTION:When the man behind one of Britain’s great cask pubs tells you there’s a beer worth ordering\, you listen. Today’s Beer of the Day has been chosen by Steve from the Swan with Two Necks in Pendleton – a family-run Ribble Valley pub he and Christine have been running since 1987. \nAnd Steve knows his way around a handpull. The Swan has been crowned CAMRA’s National Pub of the Year\, has repeatedly been recognised among the country’s very best pubs and is the current Ribble Valley CAMRA Pub of the Year. Steve’s choice from behind that famous bar is Ossett White Rat – a 4% pale ale with plenty of bite\, packed with citrus\, tropical fruit and pine from its American hops. Crisp\, bitter\, seriously hoppy and extremely moreish\, it’s exactly the sort of pint that has people spotting the rat on the pump clip and knowing what they’re ordering. \nWhite Rat started life in 2011 as Lab Rat\, a tiny test brew created in the basement of Huddersfield’s Rat & Ratchet. It was designed for the drinkers upstairs and was seriously hoppy by the standards of cask at the time. Those drinkers clearly knew a good thing when they tasted it: demand took off\, White Rat became Ossett’s bestselling beer and today around five million pints a year are brewed. \nSo today we’re following Steve’s lead. Find the rat on the bar and give it a go. It’s modern\, punchy\, properly bitter cask that was ahead of the curve when it appeared 15 years ago – and judging by the number of people still ordering it\, the rest of us have been happily catching up ever since.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Colchester Brewery Brazilian Coffee Vanilla Porter
DESCRIPTION:What beer does the Chairman of CAMRA go hunting for when he spots it on the bar? Today we have the answer – and apparently you need to be quick. \nOur Beer of the Day has been chosen by Ash Corbett-Collins\, Chairman of CAMRA\, and it’s Brazilian Coffee & Vanilla Porter from Colchester Brewery. Ash first discovered it at the Great British Beer Festival while volunteering as a Champion Beer of Britain judge. It was his beer of the festival and he’s been seeking it out ever since – although finding it isn’t always easy. In fact\, Ash has previously called Brazilian his “needle in a haystack beer”. When he does find it\, he knows exactly why he keeps coming back: “It is smooth with a velvety mouthfeel\, it has a strong coffee flavour without being overly bitter\, while being easily drinkable without being too heavy.” \nAt 4.6%\, Brazilian is a proper flavour-packed cask porter\, with coffee and vanilla doing the talking while Goldings and Fuggles bring some classic British brewing character underneath. And Ash isn’t the only one who rates it: Brazilian has picked up multiple awards\, including winning the Speciality category at CAMRA’s Champion Beer of Britain. Colchester Brewery says it’s regularly one of the first beers to disappear at festivals too – so perhaps Ash’s trouble finding a pint is partly because everybody else keeps beating him to it. \nThere is one catch: Brazilian isn’t brewed on cask all year round. It’s part of Colchester Brewery’s rotating dark beer range\, making finding that 4.6% cask version all the more satisfying. So if you ever spot Brazilian on a handpull\, take Ash’s advice and give it a try while you can. And if Ash happens to be standing behind you in the queue… perhaps leave him a pint.

SUMMARY:Beer of the Day: Butcombe + Hawkstone Hops & Glory
DESCRIPTION:Well\, this feels like a rather good way to finish. Hawkstone has made its first-ever cask beer – and our final Beer of the Day comes from a landlord who knows a thing or two about a great pint. \nOwain Jones\, co-owner of The Plough at West Hanney\, has chosen Hops & Glory\, the new 4.2% Real English Pale Ale from Hawkstone and Butcombe. Owain and his team run a community-owned village pub where cask is very much part of the furniture – The Plough has been recognised repeatedly by its local CAMRA branch and has built a reputation for keeping a cracking pint. So when something genuinely new arrives on the handpull\, he’s exactly the sort of person we want to hear from. \nAnd Hops & Glory really is new territory. This is Hawkstone’s first-ever cask beer. The Cotswolds brewery has made its name with lager and modern British beer\, with Jeremy Clarkson perhaps its most recognisable champion\, but for its first trip onto the handpull it has teamed up with a brewery that knows cask inside out. Butcombe has been brewing since 1978\, giving the collaboration almost half a century of cask experience to draw upon. It’s a meeting of two different generations of British brewing – and rather wonderfully\, they’ve chosen to do it with a beer that puts British ingredients front and centre. \nHops & Glory is brewed using 100% British ingredients\, including Maris Otter barley and six varieties of British-grown hops. The result is pale\, bright and refreshing\, with grapefruit\, orange peel and gentle tropical fruit before a crisp\, satisfyingly bitter finish. It’s traditional enough to feel completely at home on a handpull\, but with the bright\, punchy hop character you’d expect from a modern pale ale. A first cask beer that actually feels like a first cask beer – not an imitation of something that came before. \nThere’s another reason we love this collaboration. Every cask sold raises £10 for two charities supporting the people at the heart of British pubs and farming. The Licensed Trade Charity has been helping people working in pubs\, bars and hospitality for more than 200 years\, providing practical\, emotional and financial support when times get difficult. Shout provides free\, confidential mental-health support by text\, including vital support for people in farming communities. Behind every pint are growers\, brewers\, dray teams\, cellar staff and publicans – real people – so it feels particularly fitting that Hawkstone and Butcombe are using their first cask together to give something back. \nAnd perhaps that’s why this makes such a good final Beer of the Day for Cask Ale Week. We’ve spent the week celebrating beers with decades – sometimes centuries – of history behind them. Hops & Glory points in the other direction. It’s a brand making its first move into cask\, working with an experienced cask brewer\, using British-grown ingredients\, supporting pubs and farming\, and putting something genuinely new on the handpull. \nSo if you spot Hops & Glory on the bar\, follow Owain’s lead and order one while you can – it’s only around for a limited time. Hawkstone’s first cask. Two breweries. Six British hops. Two brilliant causes. One community pub landlord giving it the thumbs-up. If this is what Hawkstone’s first crack at cask looks like\, we’re rather interested to see what comes next. Cheers to that – and cheers to Cask Ale Week!
