To celebrate the start of the World Cup and National Cask Ale week, this autumn, from the 18th September until the 4th October, Nicholson’s Pubs across the country will play host to the Nicholson’s World Cup Beer Festival.

The event will feature a selection of exclusive beers, including those specially created by brewers in a unique, improvised brewing session, that took place earlier in the year.

Back in June, a selection of brewers were invited to attend an event, where they were asked to create beers from a ‘blind’ selection of ingredients and parameters. Style’, ‘ABV Range’ and ‘Continent’ were all selected at random, with the brewers relying on their creativity, experience and brewing know-how to create six innovative beers that reflect the continents of the rugby nations competing in the biggest prize in world rugby this September.

In addition to these exciting exclusive beers, Nicholson’s will be serving up a further 6 cask ales that have yet to grace their 80 historic pubs up and down the UK

Anyone downloading or using the Nicholsons’s Hop Circle App during the festival will get a free pint at the start of the festivities. Once in the app, drinkers will be able to feedback on the exclusive brews and vote for their favourite to return later on in the year.

Within the app, users will also find access to historic ale trails that offer rewards, an ale library containing tasting notes for all the beers, as well as a pub finder. Once registered, members receive ongoing loyalty rewards and promotions exclusive to the Hop circle App .

Meet the Brewer/Tasting Event

@oakalondon (pub in Kennington)

Thursday 1st October 4pm-9pm. @caskaleweek hope you can join us.

The Palmers Beer Bus will be making a return to kick off the week in Bridport’s busy street market; promoting our award winning ales, brewery tours and fantastic pubs. We have teamed up with Bridport based butchers RJ Balson & Son, Britain’s oldest family butcher and award winning local bakery Leakers, to produce traditional pork and Dorset Gold sausages in Tally Ho! baps.

The brewery will be opening its doors for free tours on the first Saturday and we will be distributing free tour tickets during the week. Our licensees are being encouraged to get experimental with ale, finding new ways to use real ale in the kitchen and to create ale and food matching menus. Many of our pubs will be running cask ale themed quizzes during the week and for 2015 Palmers pubs will be encouraged to ‘Introduce a friend to Real Ale’. Licensees who challenge their lager drinkers to try real ales and document it on social media will receive a free pin of Palmers Copper Ale!

The finale to CAW will see the return of the ‘Tour de Palmers’, a fun ride round a selection of our fantastic pubs in West Dorset. This year we have extended to ride to 36 miles, visiting 15 of our pubs, followed by free refreshments. 2015 will also see the introduction of a shorter ‘Kids & Family’ ride taking in some of Bripdort’s great safe cycle routes. Lots going on and something for everyone, keep up-to-date on our facebook page.

Passport to Prizes

We predict that there will be more people in pub generally during that week because (a) CAW and (b) Rugby World Cup so, apart from proactive Try Before You Buy / Beer paddles that are sold and marketed throughout the year we are hosting a ‘Passport to Prizes’.

The onus on ‘Passport to Prizes’ is that they visit a number of nominated Wadworth pubs during the week collecting a stamp each time they buy their first pint of beer in a different pub. These stamps then add up and they can win prizes depending on the number of stamps/pubs visited that are redeemed. This is a simple footfall driver that is intended to encourage people to get into pub and buy a pint of ale. I am including the Cask Ale Week logo on the POS and there will of course be our beer tasting notes as a beer celebration/education section.

Online – social media advertising

The ‘passports’ will be out in trade early September to build the momentum.
